About the Journal
Brief History
CoDAS (online ISSN 2317-1782) is an open-access scientific and technical journal published bimonthly by the Brazilian Society of Speech-Language Pathology (SBFa-Sociedade Brasileira de Fonoaudiologia). It is a continuation of the previous “Revista de Atualização Científica Pró-Fono” (ISSN 0104-5687), which was published until 2010, and the “Jornal da Sociedade Brasileira de Fonoaudiologia (JSBFa)” (ISSN 2179-6491), which was published until 2012.
The mission of the journal CoDAS is to contribute to the dissemination of technical and scientific knowledge in Communication Sciences and Disorders and associated areas - specifically in the areas of Language, Audiology, Voice, Orofacial Motricity, Dysphagia and Public Health - produced in Brazil and abroad. The name of the journal CoDAS was created based on the main areas of 'Communication Disorders, Audiology, and Swallowing' and was designed to be short and easy to remember. The abbreviated title of the journal is CoDAS, which should be used in bibliographies, footnotes, references and bibliographic captions. The journal is a publication of the Brazilian Society of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences.
Open Science Compliance
The CoDAS journal is open-access. It adopts a series of practices, such as the open access policy, the code of good practices for editors, and the use of social networks to disseminate published works (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn). In addition, it requires a precise indication of the role of the author in articles with multiple authors. All content of the journal, except where otherwise noted, is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution License CC-BY 4.0.
Informed Peer Review and Open Data
Also, in line with open science practices, the CoDAS journal discloses the names of the responsible Editor(s) at the time of the article publication. This practice reinforces the journal's commitment to the integrity of the editorial process and provides recognition to the editors for their crucial role in maintaining the quality standards of the publication. The reviewers' opinions may be published in the article, with the identification of the reviewers if they agree. In addition, reviewers can opt to reveal their identities after approval of the manuscript if they so wish.
Adherence to these practices is voluntary and seeks to promote an open and transparent evaluation environment, respecting the confidentiality preferences of those involved.
Publication Ethics
The CoDAS journal is dedicated to complying with good practices and follows the standards and recommendations of ethics and responsibility in scientific communication established by national and international institutions, including: COPE, ICMJE, Fapesp, and the Guide to Good Practices for Strengthening Ethics in Scientific Publication.
The CoDAS journal is alert to cases of suspected scientific misconduct, whether in the preparation of projects, execution of research, or dissemination of science. Plagiarism and self-plagiarism are forms of scientific misconduct that involve the ideas appropriation or intellectual contributions from others, without due acknowledgement through citations. Therefore, we have adopted the Ithenticate system to identify text similarities that may be considered plagiarism. It is important to note that the content of the manuscripts is the responsibility of the authors.
Editors will take the necessary measures to identify and prevent the publication of articles where research misconduct or ethical violations occur, including plagiarism, citation manipulation, falsification/fabrication of data, lack of relevant authorizations, and discrimination, among others. Situations and allegations that come to the attention of editors and reviewers will be brought to the attention of the Editorial Board, which will take the appropriate measures.
Artificial Intelligence Use Statement: Declare any use of artificial intelligence (AI), large-scale language models (LLM), or similar technologies in the production of text included in the manuscripts, whether that text is used in whole or in part (see Use of Chatbots (Artificial Intelligence) in Manuscripts).
Focus and Scope
The CoDAS journal accepts original submissions in Portuguese, Spanish, and English. Once approved, articles in Portuguese or Spanish will be translated and published in the original language and English. Translations are expected to be financed by the authors and must be done by companies indicated by the CoDAS journal or by companies with proven experience in scientific translations of articles in the same area as the journal. Articles may be submitted directly in English; in this case, the articles will not be translated into Portuguese and the text written in English will be evaluated and, if necessary, the authors will finance an English revision.
