Caro Editor,
O artigo intitulado “Apneia Obstrutiva do Sono: caracterização do sítio obstrutivo e tipo de colapso” é o tema de discussão nesta carta(1) . Nesse estudo, o objetivo foi descrever e ilustrar os locais e tipos de colapso da via aérea superior (VAS) durante o sono, a fim de contribuir para a compreensão da fisiopatologia da Apneia Obstrutiva do Sono (AOS), elegibilidade de procedimentos terapêuticos individualizados e direcionamento para terapêutica miofuncional orofacial. Foram selecionados 11 casos de pacientes do ambulatório de Otorrinolaringologia do Hospital Samaritano de São Paulo com diagnóstico de AOS e que realizaram a endoscopia do sono induzida por drogas (DISE).

This letter discusses the article entitled “Obstructive Sleep Apnea: characterization of the obstructive site and type of collapse”(1) . The study aimed to describe and illustrate the locations and types of upper airway (UA) collapse during sleep to contribute to the understanding of the pathophysiology of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), eligibility for individualized therapeutic procedures, and guidance for orofacial myofunctional therapy. The authors selected 11 cases of patients from the otolaryngology outpatient clinic of the Samaritano Hospital in São Paulo, Brazil, with a diagnosis of OSA and who underwent drug-induced sleep endoscopy (DISE).
